The University of Montana women's golf team will continue the 2006-07 season when it takes part in the Boise State Classic, Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 9-10. The tournament will take place at the Banbury Golf Course with a par of 71.
The Grizzlies finished fifth out of nine teams with a three-round score of 920 (302-311-307) at the Inland Empire Invitational, Sept. 25-26, in Spokane, Wash. UM finished 12 strokes behind first-place Idaho (298-302-308=908).
Senior Krista Swanson, a two-time All-Big Sky selection and a three-time Academic All-Big Sky selection, led the Grizzlies for the second straight tournament after she finished tied for third with a five-over-par, three-round score of 221 (73-74-74).
"Our team play was really solid. We finished 12 strokes out of the lead, but we were in contention for the win the whole weekend. It just so happened we lost by a few strokes," said Swanson.
Senior Jill Walker was five strokes back, carding a three-round score of 226 (72-78-76) to finish in eighth place. Junior Brittany Williamson recorded a 236 (79-80-77) to finish tied for 22nd, while junior Anna Maria Jaramillo was one stroke back, tied for 25th (78-79-80=237). Freshman Alyssa Williamson finished 47th with a score of 249 (83-84-82).
Two freshmen received their first taste of collegiate competition as they competed in the invitational as individuals. Jacqueline Olson carded a three-round score of 245 (83-82-80) to finish in a tie for 40th. Teddi Roberts finished 48th with a score of 250 (82-81-87).
The Grizzlies will conclude the fall portion of their schedule when they compete in the San Diego State Classic, Oct. 16-17, at the Salt Creek Golf Course in San Diego.
