The University of Montana indoor track and field teams added four new qualifiers for the 2006 Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships at Friday night's Montana State Last Chance Meet. Putting up qualifying marks in the Grizzlies' final meet before next weekend's conference meet in Flagstaff, Ariz., were junior James Stanton in the shot put, sophomores Eli Hermann in the 5,000 meters and Levi Zell in the pole vault and freshman Amber Aikins in the triple jump.
Montana now has 11 women qualified in 13 events and 13 men qualified in 17 events for next Friday and Saturday's league meet. Additional qualifiers who did not post automatic-qualifying marks this season but who placed among the top 12 on the Big Sky's final performance lists will be announced early next week.
Stanton qualified on Friday with a fourth-place distance in the shot of 51-10.5, Hermann qualified in the 5,000 meters with a third-place, altitude-adjusted 5,000-meter time of 8:38.87, Zell qualified in the pole vault by matching the BSC-qualifying height of 14-10.75 to place third and Aikins qualified in the triple jump with a first-place distance of 37-7.75.
Other highlights on Friday included junior Chris Mosbacher improving on his BSC-qualifying distance in the triple jump with a second-place showing of 46-2.5, sophomore Duncan Hendrick running a season-best 4:22.86 to win the mile, sophomore Allie Brosh improving her BSC-qualifying time in the 3,000 meters by winning the event by over 17 seconds in an altitude-adjusted time of 9:50.46 and freshman Anya Wechsler matching her BSC-qualifying height in the pole vault of 11-4.25 to finish third.
