Montana men's tennis tops Utah State, 4-3

Senior Jan Steenekamp??s three-set, come-from-behind win at No. 1 singles proved to be the difference in The University of Montana men??s tennis team??s 4-3 road win over Utah State Sunday. The win was the Grizzlies?? second in three days, improving their season mark to 4-7 overall. The loss dropped the Aggies to 7-8 on the year.
Utah State opened the match by winning the doubles point, but Montana rallied to win contests at singles Nos. 1 through 4.
With the teams tied up at three points apiece, Steenekamp prevailed over USU??s Johannes Zelle, winning 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 at the top of the singles lineup to clinch the match for the Griz.
Junior Stuart Wing and freshmen Colin Dektar and Felipe Raw also earned singles wins for Montana. Wing cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Joao Pinho at the No. 2 position. Dektar also won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 over Dantley Young at No. 3 singles.
Raw improved his season singles record to 7-4 after outlasting Bryan Marchant, 7-6, 7-5, at the No. 4.
Wing and Raw teamed up for the Grizzlies?? lone doubles win in the match. UM??s No. 2 tandem won 8-6 over Jonas Tyden and Young.
Montana (4-7, 1-0 BSC) returns to conference play Monday with a 1 p.m. (MST) road dual at Idaho State (7-8).
