Griz drop hard fought game with Yale, 1-0

The University of Montana women's soccer team dropped a hard fought match to Yale, 1-0, Sunday, Sept. 10, at the Blue Hen Adidas Classic in Newark, Del.
Emma Whitfield, who had a team-high three shots, scored the game's only goal, when she finished a pass 15 yards out from Leslie Perez at 40:32 into the game.
"Yale is a good team. They are very dangerous going forward and are a strong threat offensively," said coach Sedgwick.
The teams were even in nearly every statistical category. The two teams each had 10 shots in the game, while Yale held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Bulldogs were also offside twice to the Grizzlies one and were whistled for 13 fouls to Montana??s nine.
Senior Lindsay Winans took a game-high four shots and senior Kristina Lamberty also had two shots.
Freshman Grace Harris made three saves and allowed one goal for the Grizzlies. Susan Starr made five saves in the win for the Bulldogs.
"Playing two strong tournament teams, in Lehigh and Yale, shows that we have the ability to compete with the top teams. This a positive for us but we still need to put together a full game," said coach Sedgwick.
With the loss UM falls to 3-3 on the season. It was the first win for Yale this season, who improve to 1-2-1.
