Grizzlies host Montana Nike Cup this weekend

The University of Montana soccer team will host The Montana Nike Cup, Friday, Sept. 29, and Sunday, Oct. 1, at South Campus Stadium.
The Grizzlies will face North Dakota State Friday at 5 p.m. and follow up with a game against South Dakota State Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
Other tournament games include, South Dakota State vs. Northern Colorado Friday at 3 p.m. and North Dakota State vs. Northern Colorado Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
UM defeated MSU-Billings, 1-0, in overtime Friday, Sept. 22 in its home opener.

Montana head coach Neil Sedgwick (Dalhouise, 1995) is in his third season at UM. The Sackville, Nova Scotia, native has a 15-26-3 record leading the Griz and a 34-41-3 career record in his fifth season as a head coach. Prior to joining the Griz staff, Sedgwick was an assistant at Southern California and was the head coach at North Dakota. Sedgwick is 0-3-0 all-time against North Dakota State and 2-2-0 all-time against South Dakota State.
North Dakota State head coach Pete Cuadrado (Texas Christian, 2000) is in his third season leading the Bison. Cuadrado is 31-23-5 at NDSU and as a head coach. He served as an assistant coach at Valparaiso and Illinois State before joining the NDSU staff. He is 1-0-0 all-time against the Grizzlies and 1-1-0 against Northern Colorado.
South Dakota State head coach Lang Wedemeyer (Old Dominion, 1994) is in his seventh season leading the Jackrabbits. Wedemeyer is 49-59-10 all-time at SDSU and as a head coach.Prior to taking the helm at SDSU, Wedemeyer served as an assistant coach at Old Dominion. He is 1-0-0 all-time against the Grizzlies and 0-5-0 against Northern Colorado.
Northern Colorado head coach Tim Barrera (Virginia Tech, 1986) is in his eighth season leading the Bears. Barrera is 75-56-6 all-time at Northern Colorado and is 135-100-9 as a head coach. Prior to taking the helm at Northern Colorado, Barrera was the head coach at Wilkes University and Elmira College. He is 5-1 all-time against North Dakota State and 5-0 all-time against South Dakota State.

Senior Lindsay Winans scored the game-winning goal for the Grizzlies to defeat Montana State-Billings in overtime Saturday, Sept. 22.
The goal was the 25th of her career, tying her for fifth in Montana school history with Jodi Campbell (1997-00). The Tigard, Ore., native also moved into a tie with Stacy Forslund (1994-96) for fifth place in school history with seven career game-winning goals.
shapka continues production
Freshman Kristyn Shapka recorded a point for the second straight game Friday, Sept. 22. The St. Albert, Alberta, native scored the lone goal in the Grizzlies?? 2-1 overtime loss to Arizona. She followed up with an assist on senior Lindsay Winans?? game-winning goal in overtime against Montana State-Billings Friday.
Shapka has taken five shots this season, including two on goal.

The University of Montana took 13 corner kicks against Montana State-Billings. That ranks third all-time at UM for corner kicks in a single game.
harris posts third career shutout
Freshman Grace Harris posted her third career shutout of the season, tied for most in the Big Sky, against MSU-Billings. She made two saves on eight shots, two on goal, by the Yellowjackets.
The Missoula, Mont., native has a 0.98 goals against average, the best mark in the Big Sky, in 849:42 minutes of action this season.

The Grizzlies are unstoppable this season when they score two or more goals. UM is 3-0-0 this season when scoring two goals and 2-0-0 when they score three or more goals.
Montana is 2-5-0 this season when allowing one goal and 0-3-0 when giving up two goals. The Grizzlies have not given up more than two goals this season.
The last time the Grizzlies gave up three goals was to North Dakota State on October 16, 2005.

Montana played an overtime game for the second straight game Friday, Sept. 22, against Montana State-Billings. UM defeated the Yellowjackets 1-0. The previous weekend the Grizzlies lost to Arizona in overtime 2-1.
UM has played back to back overtime games, three different times in school history: twice in 1998 and once in 2004.

North Dakota State enters the weekend 4-4-1. The Bison split a pair of games over the weekend at the Bluejay Classic hosted by Creighton University. NDSU lost to UNLV, 1-0, Friday, Sept. 22, and followed up with a 1-0 win over Grambling State, Sunday, Sept. 24.
The Bison love to push the envelope on offense. NDSU has been caught offside 15 times this season to their opponents six.
North Dakota State has had nine different players score a goal this year, while 10 players have at least one point on the season.
Junior forward Michelle Martinez leads the team with four goals, including one game-winner this season while appearing in all nine games. The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native ranks eighth in NDSU school history with 18 career goals and fifth in shots on goal with 50.
Freshman midfielder Lorraine Thompson has added some offensive punch for the Bison this season. The Sioux Falls, S.D., native has scored three goals and added one assist while taking 26 shots on goal.
Redshirt sophomore forward Chelsea Body enters the weekend with three goals and two assists. The Calgary, Alberta, native has put nine of her 19 shots on goal this season.
Freshman goalkeeper Monica Morgan has protected the goal most of the season for the Bison. The Duncan, British Columbia, native has a 1.30 goals against average and has posted two shutouts. She has also made 41 saves in nine games.

South Dakota State enters the weekend 3-5-1 and is currently on a four-game losing streak. The Jackrabbits lost to UW-Green Bay, 1-0, Friday, Sept. 22 and repeated with a 1-0 loss to UW-Milwaukee, Sunday, Spet. 24.
SDSU opponents have enjoyed a strong advantage in corner kicks this season, 49-21. The Jackrabbits have also committed 109 fouls this season to their opponents' 81.
Sophomore midfielder Chelsea Goosen leads SDSU with a season-high 10 points. The Olathe, Kan., native has scored a team-high four goals and has added two assists. She has also scored two game-winning goals.
Junior forward Kelsey Worcester has taken a team-high 21 shots in nine games this season. The Anamosa, Iowa, native has notched two goals and three assists on the season.
Sophomores Kellyn Farrell and Erin Kasmarik have each taken 14 shots this season. Farrell, a native of Littleton, Colo., has one assist on the year, and Kasmarik, a native of Coon Rapids, Minn., has two goals this season.
Senior goalkeeper Jenn Davis enters the weekend with a 1.49 goals against average with one shutout. The Raytown, Mo., native has also made 33 saves, while averaging 75 minutes of work per game.
Sophomore Nicole Lograsso has a 1.60 goals against average and has allowed four goals. The Ames, Iowa, native has made 11 saves on the season while averaging 56 minutes of work per game.

Northern Colorado has a 3-5 record this season and will face Wyoming Wednesday, Sept. 27, before taking part in the Montana Nike Cup. The Bears are currently on a two-game loseing streak after dropping a pair of games at the Gopher Invitational. Northern Colorado lost to Iowa, 3-0, Sept. 15, and then fell to Minnesota, 3-1, Sept. 17.
The UNC offense has struggled this season, as just five players have recorded a point. The Bears have also been outshot this season, 148-65.

The Grizzlies needed 16 shots, 10 of them on goal, and 13 corner kicks before they scored the game-winning goal in the 100th minute of the match to defeat Montana State-Billings, 1-0, Friday, Sept. 22, at South Campus Stadium.
Senior Lindsay Winans scored her fourth goal of the season when she headed a cross just inside the far post from a cross by freshman Kristyn Shapka. The goal was the 25th of her career, tying her for fifth place all-time at Montana with Jodi Campbell (1997-00). Winans tied for a team-high three shots on goal for the Griz.
Senior MacKenzie Murphy had three shots, all on goal, while sophomore Meghan Chambers also took three shots, two on goal.
Ally Stroup had a game-high five shots for the Yellowjackets.

Montana was offside five times to MSU-Billings' zero.
The Grizzlies will face North Dakota State Friday at 5 p.m. and follow up with a game against South Dakota State Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
