UM tennis teams strong on first day at Montana Invitational

The University of Montana men's and women's tennis teams opened the first day of play at the Montana Invitational on Friday at the Lindsay Tennis Center in Missoula. The Griz performance was highlighted by four men advancing to the singles quarterfinals and a pair of UM women moving forward to the singles semifinals.
Juniors Colin Dektar and Felipe Raw and sophomores Mikolaj Borkowski and Raydner Ramos all won singles contests en route to quarters.
Borkowski faces Andrew Dobbs, who is playing unattached, in one of the quarterfinals. Raw will also face an unattached player, taking on Brandon Christopher in another quarterfinal matchup. Dektar and Ramos will square off against one another in the third round of singles play.
On the women's side, junior Martyna Nowak and freshman Rebecca Bran each advanced to the singles semifinal round. Nowak will face Heidi Lehman of MSU-Billings in one semifinal, while Bran takes on Laura Leoni of Idaho in the other semi.
All three Montana women's doubles teams advanced to the second round of action. Nowak and junior Liz Walker will take on the Rebecca Bran-Natalie Kirch (Idaho) combination doubles team in one semifinal. Sophomore Kayla Moyse and freshman Kate Ness will square off against the unattached tandem of Mary Tinnirello and Leoni.
Second-day action is scheduled to begin around 9 a.m. (MTN) at the Lindsay Tennis Center in Missoula. Singles and doubles action will conclude on Sunday.
