Montana to face Idaho State, Weber State this week

MISSOULA, Mont. - The University of Montana soccer team (3-10-1, 1-2-1 BSC) will face a pair of Big Sky Conference matches this week against Idaho State and Weber State. The Grizzlies will take on the Bengals (5-4-6, 0-1-3 BSC) on Friday with match time scheduled for 3 p.m. (MTN) at Davis Field in Pocatello, Idaho. UM will close the weekend at home on Sunday against the Wildcats (6-6-2, 2-1-1BSC), with match-time slated for 1 p.m. at South Campus Stadium in Missoula.
UM Athletics is promoting Sunday??s match with Weber State as a day to break the the all-time single-game attendance record. All fans will be admitted to the UM-WSU contest for $1. The Montana cheer squad and mascot Monte will also be in attendance. The first 500 fans to the game will receive Montana Soccer wristbands sponsored by Kadena??s Eatery.
The current attendance record is 1,093, set Sept. 6, 1999 when the Grizzlies hosted BYU in a regular-season matchup at South Campus Stadium.
Montana coming off tough home weekend
Montana 0, Sacramento State 0: Montana battled Big Sky Conference foe Sacramento State to a scoreless tie last Friday evening at South Campus Stadium in Missoula. The Grizzlies, recording their first draw of the 2007 season, moved to 3-9-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference action. The Hornets moved to 7-3-4 on the year, 1-0-2 in league play. Both goalkeepers played all 110 minutes of the match to record shutouts for their respective teams.
Portland State 2, Montana 1: Portland State midfielder Nathalie Wollman scored a header-goal off a corner kick in the 71st minute to lift the Vikings to a 2-1 win over Montana in Big Sky Conference action last Sunday in Missoula. The win improved PSU??s record to 2-1-1 in league play and 6-7-2 overall. The Grizzlies fell to 3-10-1 on the season and 1-2-1 in conference action. Freshman forward Kaitlyn Heinsohn scored the lone goal for UM. Senior defender Carrie Lee pressed up the right side of the field with the dribble, sent a crossing pass to the far side of the six-yard box where Heinsohn headed a shot past PSU goalkeeper Cris Lewis. The goal was Heinsohn??s second of the year, which put her in a tie with junior midfielder Sara Campbell for the team lead.
Next matches for Montana
The Grizzlies close out their regular-season on Friday, Nov. 2 at home against Eastern Washington (6-7, 1-3 BSC). If Montana finishes the regular-season in the top four teams of the standings, it will compete in the Big Sky Conference Soccer Championships scheduled for Nov. 8-10.
