Transfer added to Griz football team

MISSOULA ?C Mike Shelton, a 6-4, 240-pound defensive end, has joined The University of Montana football team, announced Griz Head Coach Bobby Hauck.
??Mike Shelton joined our team about three weeks ago and he??s been enrolled in classes since then, and he??s recently started practicing with us,?? Hauck said. ??Hopefully at some point he will get on the field.??
He is a junior transfer from the University of Arizona, where he was a two-year letterman. He played in seven games as a freshman and had five tackles, including three for losses, two sacks, and a forced fumble, and started against Purdue. Last season he also played in seven games with two tackles, no starts.
Shelton attended Dominguez High School in Compton, Calif., where he was a SuperPrep All-American. He had 115 tackles and 16 sacks as a senior, plus five forced fumbles, and had seven sacks in the playoffs. He registered 13 sacks as a junior.
His senior season he was a Cal-Hi Sports second team all-state pick and played in the CaliFlorida All-Star Game. He was a three-year starter and team captain in football. He also earned four letters in basketball in high school.
