Griz drop season finale to Eagles

The University of Montana soccer team lost its final game of the 2007 season, 2-0 to Eastern Washington Friday afternoon at South Campus Stadium. After opening Big Sky Conference play with an impressive 2-0 road victory at Northern Arizona on Oct. 12, the Grizzlies went 0-4-2 over their final six league matches.
Montana ends its season at 3-12-2 overall, 1-4-2 in Big Sky play.
The Eagles picked up their third Big Sky victory of the season, improving to 3-4 in conference matches, 8-8 overall.
Sacramento State earned hosting rights to the 2007 Big Sky Conference Tournament with a 1-0 home victory over Portland State Friday afternoon. The Hornets will host the tournament next Thursday and Saturday. Tournament seedings will be determined Saturday when Northern Arizona plays at Northern Colorado and Weber State plays at Idaho State.
Eastern Washington scored both of its goals in the opening 30 minutes.
The Eagles went up 1-0 at the 22:06 mark when Lauryn Koelzer took a crossing pass from Cyeeta Mott and put a shot over Montana keeper Grace Harris. The shot hit the crossbar and angled into the goal and would prove to be the game-winner.
EWU scored the match's final goal at the 29:47 mark when Abby Jensen also used every available inch of the goal. She took a pass from Mandy Cheney and from 10 yards out scored off the right post.
Eastern Washington held a 15-10 shots advantage for the match. Both keepers, UM's Harris and Eastern Washington's Jessica Blessard, made one save in the match.
Juniors Rachael Meyer and Sara Campbell each took a team-high two shots in the match for the Grizzlies. Mayer had Montana??s only shot on goal.
It was the final match in the careers of UM seniors Laura Nogueira, Carrie Lee and Mahlleace Tomsin.
