Borkowski honored by Big Sky Conference

University of Montana freshman Mikolaj Borkowski was named the Big Sky Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week the league office announced Tuesday. Borkowski was recognized for his role in the Grizzlies' sweep of Montana State and Idaho State last weekend in their final regular season matches.
Borkowski becomes the third UM men??s tennis player to earn Player of the Week honors this spring. Senior Brady Tommerup was recognized last week and in early March.
Borkowski, of Olsztyn, Poland, went 2-0 in both singles and doubles play last weekend as Montana won at Montana State, 5-2, and at home against Idaho State, 7-0.
The victories secured the No. 2 seed and a bye to the semifinal round at this weekend's Big Sky Conference Men's Tennis Tournament. The Grizzlies wrapped up their regular season on a four-match winning streak, going 11-8 overall in 2007, 6-1 in Big Sky matches.
In singles play against the Bobcats, Borkowski rallied from down a set to defeat David Kovas at No. 5, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Two days later he easily dispatched the Bengals' Ben Lockie at No. 4, 6-0, 6-1.
The victories improved Borkowski's record in singles play to 14-5.
Paired with Tommerup at No. 3 doubles, the duo swept their matches, winning 8-4 against Montana State and 8-2 against Idaho State.
Borkowski is 15-4 in doubles play this season, 15-2 since matching up with Tommerup. The pair has won nine straight at the No. 3 spot.
