Host UCI ran away with the team title with a 909,while second-place went to San Jose State (939). The medalist was Irvine??s Selanee Henderson who carded a 216.
UM PLACERS AT IRVINE: Senior Jill Walker was UM??s highest placer at UC Irvine, tying for 41st with a score of 248 (78-82-88).
Walker was followed by junior Brittany Williamson, who tied for 60th with a 252 (85-80-87); senior Krista Swanson tied for 69th with a total of 258 (83-89-86); junior Anna Maria Jaramillo was 79th at 272 (91-89-92); and freshman Jacqueline Olson finished in 83rd with a 276 (94-91-91).
UM??s Alyssa Williamson competed unattached and finished tied for 23rd with a 242 (79-82-81), while fellow freshman Teddi Roberts also competed unattached and was 78th at 270 (87-91-92).
QUOTING COACH STEELE: ??I think our team has been putting a lot of pressure on themselves to try repeat (the Big Sky title), and that??s stepping in their way a little bit. I explained to them that right now they have a fear of failure and they don??t have the confidence to succeed; and we need to turn that around.
"Looking at last year and trying to compare last year to this year, I don??t think we can at this point do that. We can only look forward and think about what we can do with the talent that??s on this team. They know what they did last fall. Now they need to believe in themselves and in their abilities to improve on what??s been going on this spring.??
WHAT??S NEXT?: Montana competes in the Big Sky Championships, April 16-18, at the Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Arizona.
