Griz place nine on preseason All-Big Sky team

The Big Sky Conference unveiled its preseason all-conference football team Monday during the league's Summer Kickoff in Park City, Utah.
Selected members of the Big Sky Conference media voted for the squad, which features 13 players who were selected to the 2006 All-Big Sky first team.
Nine-time defending Big Sky champion Montana placed nine players on the team, led by senior All-America defensive end Kroy Biermann, who was one of seven unanimous picks. Grizzlies joining Biermann on the squad include junior quarterback Cole Bergquist, senior running back Lex Hilliard, senior offensive tackle Cody Balogh, senior wide receiver Eric Allen, senior kicker Dan Carpenter, senior linebacker Tyler Joyce, and safeties Torrey Thomas and Colt Anderson.
Hilliard, a two-time All-Big Sky running back, missed the entire 2006 season with an injury. The 6-foot, 228-pounder from Kalispell, Mont., has rushed for 2,884 yards and 34 touchdowns in his career.
Senior All-American wide receiver Alex Watson was a unanimous pick. Watson is coming off a stellar campaign where he caught 82 passes for 1,017 yards with 15 touchdowns. Watson was joined on the squad by Lumberjack teammates Shaun Fitzpatrick, a junior tight end, and cornerbacks K.J. Gerard and Ricky Wilson. Gerard sustained an injury in NAU's 2006 opener and missed the rest of the season. The junior from Fountain Valley, Calif., has eight career interceptions.
Five Portland State Vikings were selected to the squad, including senior All-American offensive lineman Brennan Carvalho. He's joined by teammates Bobby McClintock (FB), defensive end Cole Smith, senior linebacker Jordan Senn, and special teamer Kenneth Mackins.
Idaho State players on the squad include center George Yarno, wide receiver Eddie Thompson and punter Dan Zeidman.
The defense features three Montana State Bobcats: Tackle Aaron Papich, and linebackers Epikopo King and Bobby Daly. Sacramento State tackle Dallas Mauga and linebacker Cyrus Mulitalo rounded out the defense.
Weber State senior tackle David Hale and Wildcat return man Bryant Eteuati were unanimous selections on offense. Eastern Washington offensive guard Matt Alfred, a 2005 All-American, rounded out the offense.
