Montana takes 11th at third fall tournament

The University of Montana golf team shot a final-round 310 on Tuesday to finish the Bronco Fall Classic in Meridian, Idaho, posting 11th place out of 12 teams. Due to a frost delay on Monday, only two rounds were played in the tournament. The Grizzlies performed much better in their second and final round, having carded a 328 the day before.

Santa Clara lost its five stroke lead from Monday to finish in a four-way tie for first place with UC Riverside, Wyoming, and Boise State. After carding a 307 on Monday, UC Riverside came back to post the best second round score of 296.

Santa Clara???s Miki Ueoka maintained her lead through the second round, earning individual medalist honors with 4-under par score of 140 (70-70). UC Riverside???s Jennifer Bermingham took second and improved substantially in the second round to finish with a 2-under par score of 142 (74-68).

Although Montana finished fourth out of five Big Sky Conference teams present at the Bronco Classic, the Grizzlies??? second round score of 310 was second in the BSC to only that of Portland State which carded a 306 for its final round. Five out of seven of Montana???s players improved their scores on Tuesday after a chilly first round Monday.

Sophomore Carissa Simmons was Montana???s top finisher, tying for 13th overall, improving from 24th after Monday???s round. Simmons scored a 36-hole score of 7-over par 151 (78-73).

Junior Alyssa Williamson tied for 43rd carding an 18-over par 162 (84-78).
Junior Jacqueline Olson finished two strokes behind Williamson to tie for 49th carding a 164 (85-79). Freshman Ashli Helstrom tied with teammate Olson in 49th with 164 (84-80).

Junior Teddi Roberts rounded out the team score, tied for 65th after carding a score of 170 (82-88).

Kacey Valla and Rose Stepanek, who traveled as individuals, finished the tournament well. Valla tied for 23rd place carding an 11-over par 155 (79-76). Stepanek tied with teammate Williamson in 43rd carding a 18-over par 162 (80-82).
The Grizzlies will end their fall season after traveling to the home state of Coach Steele to compete in the Florida International Pat Bradley Invitational on Oct. 27-28. The tournament will be played with a 36-hole first day, followed by a single round on the final day.
