Mariani honored by BSC for third time

The Big Sky Conference has selected its football Players of the Week for games played on Saturday, Nov. 22, the final weekend of the regular season. Portland State quarterback Drew Hubel and Idaho State running back Kenyon Blue are the Co-Offensive Players of the Week. Eastern Washington linebacker Marcus Walker is the Defensive Player of the Week. Idaho State kicker Mike Ramos and Montana returner Marc Mariani are the Co-Special Teams Players of the Week.

The award was Mariani???s third Big Sky POW of the season.

Hubel, a 6-foot-5, 205-pound sophomore from Corvallis, Ore., completed 28-of-36 passes for 343 yards and three touchdowns in the Vikings??? 24-21 win over Northern Colorado. Hubel completed his first 14 passes and led the Vikings on TD drives on their first three possessions.

Blue, a 5-8, 180-pound senior from San Diego, Calif., finished with 250 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns in Idaho State???s 36-33 overtime win over Sacramento State. Blue, who helped Idaho State snap a 15-game losing streak, scored the game-winning touchdown in overtime on a 16-yard run. Blue carried the ball 18 times for a career-high 111 yards and two touchdowns. He caught two passes for 57 yards, including a 54-yard scoring strike in the third quarter that put the Bengals up 24-13. Blue also had a key 42-yard kick return in the final minute of regulation to help ISU set up the game-tying field goal.

Walker, a 5-11, 210-pound senior from Pullman, Wash., intercepted two passes, had eight tackles and ?? sack in Eastern Washington???s 33-26 road upset of No. 8 Weber State. Both of Walker???s interceptions led to Eastern Washington touchdowns. The Eagles intercepted WSU four times, and jumped out to a 33-7 lead.

Ramos, a 5-9, 165-pound junior from Redlands, Calif., booted three field goals in Idaho State???s 36-33 overtime win over Sacramento State. Ramos made a 42-yard field goal with eight seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime. He also made field goals of 36 and 29 yards.

Mariani, a 6-foot, 185-pound junior from Havre, Mont., returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown in fifth-ranked Montana???s 35-3 win over rival Montana State. The touchdown return, his second in as many weeks, put the Grizzles ahead 7-0 in the first quarter. Mariani also caught a 37-yard touchdown reception. He finished with 129 return yards, 41 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
