Montana drops season opener at Portland, 4-3

The University of Montana men??s tennis team took three-of-six singles matches but dropped the doubles point in a 4-3 road loss to No. 75 Portland on Friday night at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center in Portland, Ore. The Grizzlies, playing in their season-opening dual match, fell to 0-1 overall. The Pilots improved to 4-1 on the season.
The doubles point was swept by Portland, despite matches being close at all three positions.
Juniors Colin Dektar and Alexandre Gorj fell 8-6 to UP??s Filip Zivkovic and Charlie Yemm at the No. 1 slot. UM junior Felipe Raw and sophomore Raydner Ramos lost 9-8 (3) at the No. 2 position to Evan Schleining and Bryan Thorp. At the No. 3 position it was Portland??s Joel Kincaid and Renaldo Domoney defeating sophomore Mikolaj Borkowski and freshman David Cysneiros, 8-5.
The Grizzlies were victorious in singles action at the Nos. 3, 5 and 6 positions. Borkowski won in straight sets at the No. 3 over Schleining, 6-4, 7-5. Gorj, a mid-year transfer competing for the first time with UM, defeated Charlie Yemm at the No. 5 slot, 6-0, 2-6, 6-3.
At the bottom of the lineup, Cysneiros won over Renaldo Domoney, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Montana (0-1) returns to action for its Big Sky Conference opener on Saturday morning with a road match against Portland State. Match-time is slated for 11 a.m. (MST) at UP??s Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center in Portland, Ore.
