Montana takes 11th after first round

The University of Montana golf team is in 11th place of the 12 teams competing at the Ducks Invitational after the first round of play. The tournament, being held at the Shadow Hills Country Club in Junction City, Ore., will conclude on the par 72 course on Tuesday, March 24.
Montana finished with 331 giving?the Grizzlies a?two stroke?lead over?Portland State, the one?fellow Big Sky team present. The Grizzlies trail 10th place University of Portland by just two strokes.
San Francisco leads after shooting a 291 and claiming first and second individual honors. No. 29 Oregon follows closely in second with 301.
Sophomore Carissa Simmons who finished first?for the Grizzlies?last weekend at the Drake Invitational in Vallejo, Calif.,?leads the Grizzlies this week as well?to tie for 20th place with 78 (39-39).
Freshman Ashli Helstrom is tied in 40th after shooting an 81 (39-42).
Sophomore teammate Rose Stepanek finished just two strokes shy of Helstrom to tie for 46th while sophomore Kacey Valla finished 67th after shooting an 89 (41-48). Junior Teddi Roberts wrapped up the first round for the Grizzlies finishing in 69th with 95 (48-47).
