University of Montana football coach Bobby Hauck will travel to southwest Asia next month to visit troops at US military bases as part of a morale-boosting college football coaches tour. The tour is being organized by the US Army.
Other coaches scheduled for the tour include David Bailiff of Rice, Rich Ellerson of Army and Rob Akey of Idaho.
Dates and locations of the tour will not be announced.
Hauck???s late father, Robert, Sr., served in the US Marine Corps. His uncle, Tom, who is an assistant on Hauck???s coaching staff, was a member of the University of Montana ROTC while playing for the Grizzlies in the early 60s and later served in Vietnam.
???I am honored and excited to have been asked to visit our troops in Asia this summer,??? Hauck said. ???It will be a privilege to look them in the eye and personally thank them for their service to our country and tell them how grateful I am and how proud I am of the job they do.
???After seeing news reports the past several years and getting that perspective, I am looking forward to seeing firsthand the progress that???s being made and the outstanding job our military has done. I???m particularly looking forward to meeting some of my fellow Montanans and Grizzlies who are serving.???
Hauck will be entering his seventh season at Montana in the fall. He has guided the Grizzlies to a 66-16 overall record and a 39-6 Big Sky Conference mark in his first six seasons, with six Big Sky championships, six NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoff bids and two appearances in the FCS national championship game.
