Men's tennis downed by Pilots

The University of Montana men???s tennis team fell to 1-1, (1-0 BSC) in a 6-1 loss to the University of Portland Pilots Saturday at the Portland Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center. The sole Griz point came with a victory at No. 3 singles by??sophomore Carl Kuschke, who climbs to 2-0 in singles this spring.
Though play was marked by several close sets from top to bottom, the Grizzlies were shot down in seven of nine matches. The second Montana match-win was logged early in the competition as senior Raydner Ramos and junior David Cysneiros won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles over Pilots Daniel Coelho and Jackson Martin.
Ramos and Cysneiros?? climb to 2-0 at doubles for the spring season.
En route to his second singles win in as many matches, Kuschke defeated Geoff Hernandez 7-5, 6-4.
In his match at No. 6 singles, freshman Michael Facey surprised Jackson Martin by winning his first set 7-6 (4) before dropping the second 6-0. The Cameron Park, California native then pushed his opponent to a super tie breaker, dropping the match 10-8. ??
Following play Saturday UM coach Kris Nord said, ???As expected, Portland has a strong team this season. We played well today. Sure, you can always hope to pull out a better performance, especially with some of those close matches that we saw today, but we are pleased with how we competed.
???We saw a hard-fought win from Carl Kuschke today and that No. 2 doubles team seems to be combining well.???
The Grizzlies will take on Gonzaga Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. MT. Gonzaga played UP to a 5-2 loss Friday, promising for a close matchup with Montana.
