Women's soccer team adds goalkeeper

The University of Montana women???s soccer team announced another recruit this week with the signing of Medford, Ore. senior Kendra McMillan. The keeper will be added to??a defensive list including returning keeper Kristen Hoon and recruit Julianna Jack.
Of McMillan, UM goalkeeper coach C.J. Cooper said, ???We saw video of Kendra and were immediately impressed with her athleticism. She is an extremely aggressive keeper, who is good with the ball at her feet.???
Following the graduation of Montana???s four year veteran-in-goal Grace Harris and backup keeper Alex Fisher, the Grizzly coaching staff has put a major focus on the last line of Grizzly defense. Head coach Neil Sedgwick said, ???Though you can only play one keeper at a time, it is a position that requires a very specific set of skills. We would ideally enter competition four deep in goal, it???s a position where, as a coach, you cannot afford to mess around.???
McMillan, who garnered all-conference honors in all four years of high school competition, was named MVP of her Medford high team as a senior. Her league honors included three first-team selections and a second-team honor as a freshman within Oregon???s southwest conference.
McMillan said, ???Missoula reminded me a lot of home, which was nice. I was also really impressed with how nice everyone was around town. It seemed that people support the university a great deal. People saw me in my Montana gear and asked if I was a Griz, and were excited that I was considering the school.
???Coach?? (C.J.) Cooper seemed pretty knowledgeable. When we spoke, he seemed to have a lot of knowledge about the position, as well as having the background as a keeper himself. I am excited to work with him in the fall.??? ??
The Oregonian intends to pursue a degree in teaching while also fulfilling requirements for a masters degree in physical therapy.
