The Big Sky Conference has selected its football Players of the Week for games played on Saturday, Oct. 22, and The University of Montana Bryan Waldhauser was the co-defensive "Player of the Week" for his play in the Grizzlies' 28-24 win at Northern Arizona.
Joining Waldhauser as the co-defensive Player of the Week was Montana State defensive tackle Zach Minter. The other players recognized were Eastern Washington wide receiver Nicholas Edwards on offense, and EWU kicker Mike Jarrett in the special teams area.
Waldhauser, a 6-4, 270-pound senior from Worden, Mont., tallied 10 tackles - eight solo - 2.5 sacks and four tackles for loss in Montana's win at NAU. Waldhauser had 1.5 sacks during the course of three plays late in the third quarter with the Grizzlies leading 21-14. Both sacks led to NAU punts. His final sack clinched the Montana win, as he brought down quarterback Cary Grossart at the NAU 48-yard line with 1:02 remaining to play on fourth down. This is Waldhauser's second career Player of the Week honor.
"Waldo" is the third leading tackler for the 6-2 and 11-ranked Grizzlies with 49 total stops. He also has team-highs with 7.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.
Minter, a 6-1, 285-pound junior from Glendale, Ariz., tallied a season-high seven solo tackles with three tackles for loss and two sacks in Montana State's 31-21 road win over Northern Colorado.
