Griz golf finishes 14th in Arizona

The University of Montana golf team improved on its day one efforts to finish in 14th place after the second and final round at the Red Rocks Invitational Sunday in Sedona, Ariz.
The Grizzlies top three finishers all bettered their first round scores to end with a team score of 316 in the second round. Montana (338-316--654) struggled in day one of the 20-team tournament with its lowest score coming from freshman Tara Green shooting a 10-over-par 82. Montana shot a season high 338 in the first round.
Green (82-78--160) led the Griz and shaved off four strokes from her first round effort to hit a 78 in day two. Green finished tied in 33rd place.
Junior Olivia Weber, who was forced to withdraw from the first round of competition due to illness, did tee off in the second round even though her score could not be counted. Weber shot the lowest round of the tournament for the Griz with a 75.
Eastern Michigan (305-298--603), who was the leader after round one, held off the competition to take the team title. Caitlin Mc Cleary, who was individual leader after the first round, held on to take the individual crown.
Montana will head to Fresno, Calif., to play in the Fresno State Lexus Classic March, 12-13.
