The Grizzly men's tennis team was shutout 7-0 Friday by 56th-ranked Cal Poly at the Boas Tennis Center in Boise.
The loss broke Montana's (4-2) three-match winning streak and extended Cal Poly's (11-5) winning streak to eight matches.
Montana battled hard including two close loses in the doubles matches.
Andrew Warren and Ethan Vaughn went to the tie-breaker in their doubles match before falling to Andre Dome and Matt Fawcett 9-8 (3). Carl Kuschke and Ben DeMaroisalso fell by the score of 9-8 to Brian McPhee and Jordan Bridge.
"Our No.1 and No.2 doubles teams were serving for the win but we couldn't close them out," coach Kris Nordsaid. "If we would have won that doubles point who knows what would have happened."
In singles play the Griz got strong play from the middle of the lineup. Michael Faceylost a hard fought match to Bridge 7-5, 6-3 and Vaughn won the first set of his match before losing the three-set match to Marco Comuzzo 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.
"We had some close singles matches that won't necessarily show up in the scores," Nord said. "Their (Cal Poly) players are very athletic and I was happy with how hard our guys battled."
The Grizzlies met Boise State in doubles competition this evening and will continue their match with the singles competition at 8:30 a.m.
