Montana topples Idaho State 5-2

The Montana Grizzlies men's tennis team improved its Big Sky record to 5-1 after a 5-2 victory over Idaho State in Pocatello on Sunday evening.
Montana (7-10, 5-1) finished the last match of a twelve day road trip with a high note, winning the doubles point and four singles matches.
"I was really pleased," Head coach Kris Nord said. "We played good doubles. ISU's doubles concerned me, but our guys played real well. We really took care of business, and I'm happy with that."
Mikolaj Caruk and Tomasz Soltyka knocked off Krzysztof Stempien and Bjorn Scheepbouwer 8-2, and then Andrew Warren and Eric Braun cruised to an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles, securing the doubles point.
In singles play, sophomore Semion Branzburg finished off Daniel Loebel quickly, winning 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3. Tomasz Soltyka defeated Josh Goodwin easily 6-1, 6-2, giving UM a 3-0 lead.
"He had a match that I thought he should win, and he did just that," Nord said. "I'm probably even happier with his great doubles play. He had some things we felt he needed to work on, and he's done that. We just want these guys to improve as the season goes on and that's what they're doing."
After Soltyka's win, senior Mikolaj Caruk sealed the duel victory by defeating Jamey Swiggart 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles.
The Griz play its last five matches at home, with four of those being against conference opponents. UM hosts Northern Colorado this Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Peak Racquet Club.
"We're in position to do what we want to do," Nord added. "We want to go to the tournament and get one of the top two seeds. We stumbled against Weber, but that's history and now we're just trying to get home, stay healthy and take care of business at home."
