The Montana track and field teams will compete at home for the final time this season when the Grizzlies host the Tom Gage Classic Friday afternoon at Dornblaser Field in Missoula.
The meet will feature athletes from Montana, Montana State, Carroll and Great Falls. Field events will begin at noon with the men's hammer. Running events will start at 2 p.m. with the women's steeplechase.
The meet is Montana's final time competing at home and last chance to put up improved times and marks before next week's Big Sky Conference championships, which will be held Wednesday through Saturday at Flagstaff, Ariz.
The NCAA West Regional will be held May 29-31 at Fayetteville, Ark., the NCAA championships June 11-14 at Eugene, Ore.
"Friday is a different type of meet for different athletes," said UM coach Brian Schweyen.
"Some are competing because they don't want to take a week off before conference. Some are competing to improve their marks on the region list. Some are trying to get qualified for conference. And some are competing for the final time this season, so you have a gamut.
"But the one common denominator for all of them is that they are out there to compete. Whatever goal they are aiming for, they are out there to have the best performance they can have and try to improve on anything they've ever done."
Friday's meet is also a last-chance opportunity for fans to see one of the most accomplished classes in recent history compete at Dornblaser for the final time. Of the 13 athletes being recognized, more than half -- seven -- have their names in the Montana record book, including five of the six women.
"I think it would be great to see some people come out Friday and recognize these seniors, because they are some of the best track and field athletes this university has seen," Schweyen said.
"When you're a record-holder, obviously you're one of the greatest, and some of these athletes have broken the records they hold several times. A number of their records are going to stand for a long time. It's a special group."
Redshirt seniors Lindsey Hall and Kourtney Danreuther hold or are part of 10 records between them.
Hall, who has scored more points at Big Sky indoor championships than any female athlete in league history, owns indoor records in the 60-meter hurdles, long jump and pentathlon and outdoor records in the 100-meter hurdles, javelin and heptathlon.
Danreuther holds both the indoor and outdoor 400-meter records and the record in the 400-meter hurdles, which she broke last Saturday. She is also a member of the record-holding outdoor 4x400-meter relay team, a squad that also includes senior McKenzie Luth.
Redshirt senior Keith Webber holds both the indoor and outdoor pole vault records, and redshirt senior Austin Emry owns the indoor heptathlon record.
Redshirt senior Anika Green is a two-event indoor record holder, the 60 meters and 55-meter hurdles, and senior Kellee Glaus holds the indoor triple jump mark.
The group has won 14 individual Big Sky Conference championships, led by Hall's six and Danreuther's four, and has three relay golds. It has a dozen NCAA regional appearances and two indoor and one outdoor nationals appearances, with many more to be added over the next month and a half.
