Three Griz named to All-Big Sky golf team

Three players from the Montana women's golf team were honored with All-Big Sky Conference accolades following the completion of this week's Big Sky championship at Chandler, Ariz. The all-conference teams, which were voted upon by the league's coaches, were announced Wednesday.

Sophomore Barbora Bakova was one of four unanimous selections to the five-golfer first team and the only underclassman to receive first-team honors. Senior Tara Green and sophomore Alexa Schendelman were voted to the five-member second team.

The trio led Montana to a fifth-place finish at the Big Sky championship. The Grizzlies finished 12 shots behind conference champion Northern Arizona. Their tournament team total of 913, with rounds of 307, 302 and 304, was the third-lowest for the program in championship history.

Bakova, second-team All-Big Sky last year as a freshman, tied for fourth at the Big Sky championship, with rounds of 74, 72 and 77. It was Bakova's fourth top-10 finish in nine events in 2014-15.

The Czech Republic native finished the season with a scoring average of 75.52, the best average in program history by more than half a stroke. Her final 17 rounds of the season were all played in the 70s.

Green, who tied for 19th at the championship, was named second-team All-Big Sky for the fourth time in her career. Her season stroke average of 76.28 was the second-lowest in program history, her four-year scoring average of 76.85 the best by nearly a stroke.

Schendelman, who missed three of the team's five fall tournaments with an injury, finished with a stroke average of 76.3. She shot rounds of 77, 84 and 77 to tie for 38th at the championship.

Portland State senior A Ram Choi, medalist at the championship for the second consecutive year, was voted Player of the Year for the third time. She joins Northern Arizona's Sophia Choi as the only three-time winners of the award.

Joining Choi and Bakova on the first team were three golfers from Idaho, which finished third at the championship, three strokes behind Northern Arizona.

Sacramento State's Astha Madan, who tied for second at the championship, and Portland State's Hansol Koo and were named co-Freshmen of the Year.
