Montana freshman Jess Beaman finished second Tuesday in the two-day heptathlon at the MSU-UM Combined Events Dual at MSU's Brick Breeden Fieldhouse in Bozeman.

Sophomore Charlie Bush, who no-heighted in the pole vault, finished sixth.

Beaman, top five in all four of Monday's events, entered day two in second place behind Montana State's Mason Storm and held his position throughout the final three events.

He ran a 9.58 to place fourth in the 60-meter hurdles, went 10-6 in the pole vault and closed with a 3:12.82 in the 1,000 meters.

Storm won the heptathlon with a Big Sky Conference-qualifying score of 4,884 points. Beaman totaled 4,176 to hold off three athletes from Montana State. MSU's Austin Decker was third with 4,076 points.

Bush started the day in fourth and moved up to third after running the hurdles in a time of 9.28, the event's second-fastest time behind Storm's 8.52.

Bush went scoreless in the pole vault, then closed strong with a third-place time of 3:01.95 in the 1,000 meters, a career best. Had Bush matched the 15-3 he jumped last month in the pole vault at Eastern Washington's Candy Cane VIII, he would have scored 4,630 points and finished second.

Montana will compete for the first time this indoor season as a full team on Friday, Jan. 15, at the Montana State Open.
