Â
The Canadian Super Bowl kicks off on Sunday, Nov. 27, as the 104th Grey Cup is set to decide the champion of the Canadian Football League (CFL) in Toronto.
Â
The Montana Grizzlies and the state of Montana will be well represented on both sides of the ball as the Calgary Stampeders and Ottawa RedBlacks square off at BMO Field.
Â
On the field, former Griz standout Travon Van will suit up for the RedBlacks, hoping to continue a successful season as Ottawa's second-leading rusher. The electric former Griz running back has rushed for 422 yards on 81 carries for a pair of touchdowns this year in just nine games of action.
Â
Joining Van on the sidelines for the RedBlacks is former Griz linebacker Jeremiah Kose, who is listed on Ottawa's injured reserve list.
Â
Also in Toronto with Ottawa is Great Falls native, CMR high school grad, and former Griz receiver Brock Sunderland, who serves in the RedBlacks' back office as the Assistant General Manager.
Â
Sunderland played for the Griz from 1998-2000 before trading in his cleats for a whistle due to a series of knee injuries.
Â
On the opposite sideline, Montana's "Legend of the Fall," Dave Dickenson will lead the Stampeders into the Grey Cup, fresh off being named the CFL's Coach of the Year in his inaugural season as the head man in Calgary.
Â
Dickenson, also a native of Great Falls and CMR grad, led the Stamps to a 15-2-1 record in his first year as head coach, a record number of wins for a rookie head coach in the CFL, rattling off 14-straight wins to finish the season. No stranger to success in the Grey Cup, Dickenson was named MVP of the game as a player in 2006 with the BC Lions.
Â
The Treasure State will also be represented by a pair of former Bobcats in the Grey Cup. Montana State alums Zach Minter (defensive line) and linebacker Alex Singleton will suit up for the Stamps.
Â
The RedBlacks, Stampeders, and all its Grizzly connections are set to kick off in the Grey Cup at 4 p.m. (MT) and can be seen in the US on ESPN 2.
