A late summer evening in Missoula, watching football under the lights at Washington-Grizzly Stadium… What could be better?
Â
The Montana Grizzlies open the 2016 season on Saturday, September 3, at 7:00 p.m. against the visiting Saint Francis Red Flash, who travel from Eastern Pennsylvania for the first-ever matchup with the Griz.
Â
Single-game tickets are still available for the home opener, and with the much-anticipated night game approaching, fans will want to act quick to secure their seat under the lights.
Â
Interest in Griz football has soared over the past year. Nearly 500 more fans have purchased season tickets this year as compared to 2015, bringing the total season ticket holders in Washington-Grizzly stadium to roughly 19,000 for 2016. That's approximately the same amount of season ticket holders as the populations of Miles City and Livingston combined.
Â
The Grizzlies led the FCS in attendance in 2015 for the second-straight year, and the fifth time in the last decade. UM averaged 24,139 fans per-game over the course of last seasons, seven-game home slate, including a new stadium record of 26,472 set against North Dakota State.
Â
The Grizzlies take the field for the second season under head coach Bob Stitt, with 10 starters and 28 lettermen returning, bolstered by a young but talented and athletic group of newcomers.
Â
Saturday's game against Saint Francis will be the only chance fans get to see the new-look Griz at home during the month of September, as the team hits the road for a pair of road games on Sept. 10 and 24.
Â
The next home game is scheduled for Oct. 1, a homecoming showdown with reining Big Sky Conference Champion, Southern Utah.
Â
Tickets can be purchased at griztix.com until two hours before kickoff on Saturday. Fans can also pick up tickets at the Adams Center Box Office, which opens at noon on game day.Â
