*** NOTE *** The below schedule has been changed due to weather. Spring Practice now starts one week later.
###
With blizzard conditions descending on Western Montana this week, there will be a little less "spring" in spring football this year as the Grizzlies return to the field for a month of offseason work next week.
The Montana football team's slate of 14 spring practices is set to kick off on the afternoon of Monday, March 4 - in snow or sunshine - culminating with the annual Grizzly Scholarship Association Spring Game.
For the first time since 2006, the Spring Game returns to Legends Stadium in Kalispell on Saturday, April 13, at 1 p.m. The GSA will also host a tailgate party in the leadup to the game, starting at 11 a.m.
This year's spring game is hosted by the Flathead Valley chapter of the GSA, and is sponsored by Fun Beverage.
Tickets to the spring game are $10 each and will go on sale in the near future. Kids 10 and under will receive free admission with an adult. Proceeds from the spring game go straight to the GSA, whose primary mission is to provide scholarships for student-athletes.
Practice Schedule: Montana's practices begin on March 4 and will be held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday through March 22, when the team will take a week off for spring break.
The Griz return to the field on April 1 for two weeks, with the schedule culminating with the spring game in Kalispell.
Practices are open to the public and scheduled to begin at approximately 3:30 (subject to change). The schedule also includes a pair of scrimmages on March 15 and 22.
Pro Day: Former Grizzlies hoping to turn the heads of professional scouts will get their chance to shine on Tuesday, March 12. The speed and agility portions of Pro Day will be held in Washington-Grizzly Stadium but can be moved into the Washington-Grizzly Champions Center in the case of inclement weather.
Montana opens the 2019 season on August 31 at South Dakota before returning home for the first-ever meeting with North Alabama on Sept. 7. The challenging Grizzly home schedule also includes games against Monmouth, Idaho State, Eastern Washington, Idaho, and Weber State.
Coaches Clinic: Head coach Bobby Hauck and his staff will host a clinic for football coaches around the region to join them for two days of learning. Registration for the coaching clinic is currently open. Contact Julie Tonkin at tonkinja@mso.umt.edu or 243-2969.
