The Montana men's tennis team placed a Big Sky Conference-best seven student-athletes, and the UM women followed suit with four on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) 2019 academic awards lists, the organization announced Thursday.
Â
For the fourth-straight year, the Grizzly women earned an ITA All-Academic Team honor, recognizing squads that complete the academic year with a team 3.2 GPA or higher. The UM men also received the distinction for the second-straight season.
Â
In the same year the Montana men took home the Dusten Hollist for the best overall GPA in Grizzly Athletics with a 3.68, head coach Jason Brown's Grizzlies were in the top 10 percent of all D-I teams in ITA Scholar-Athlete Award winners with seven.
Â
The prestigious Scholar-Athlete award recognizes athletes who have gone above and beyond the requirements for an academic all-conference honor with a 3.5 GPA required to earn a place on the list. Four of Montana's women's student-athletes also earned ITA Scholar-Athlete Awards for a total of eleven between the two.
Â
This year the ITA saw an increase in qualifying teams and scholar-athletes. All-Academic honors were awarded to over 700 teams and more than 4,000 scholar-athletes from all levels of collegiate competition (D-I, D-II, D-III, NAIA & JuCo).
