Sneed named to CFPA Preseason Watch List

Montana quarterback Dalton Sneed has earned a place on the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) FCS National Performer of the Year Preseason Watch List, the organization announced Tuesday.

Named the Big Sky Newcomer of the Year in 2018, Sneed earned an all-conference Honorable Mention after leading the Grizzlies in both rushing and passing with 3398 yards of total offense, an average of 308.9 yards-per-game that ranked him No. 9 in the nation in total production. Against Sacramento State in 2018, he set a new single-game rushing record for a QB with 206 yards and three touchdowns, which was the eighth-best overall rushing game in UM history as well.

He threw for a season-high five touchdowns against Southern Utah, tied for the third-most in a singe game in UM history, and his 22 passing TDs on the season were the 16th-most in FCS football and the 15th-most in UM history. His dual-threat quarterback performance also earned him Montana's Offensive MVP award at the team's annual awards banquet.

Sneed is one of six players from the Big Sky Conference to be placed on the preseason watch list. Others include NAU QB Case Cookus (who won the award in 2015), EWU QB Eric Barriere, MSU linebacker/RB Troy Anderson, RB Elijah Dotson from Sacramento State, QB Jake Maier from UC Davis, and RB Josh Davis from Weber State.

With the addition of quarterbacks Kenji Bahar of Monmouth and Austin Simmons of South Dakota, the Grizzlies will face a total of six CFPA preseason watch list opponents in 2019.

The 2019 CFPA FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy is a 22-inch K-9 optic crystal tower with eight-inch crystal football on top. All FCS players are eligible for the award. The award winner will be announced January 15, 2020.
