Montana announced its 2020 track & field schedule this week, which features a pair of home meets.
Â
Like most seasons, Montana will get an early preview of its team on Dec. 7 at the Bobcat Preview in Bozeman, Mont. It's a unique meet that allows coaches and student-athletes to see where they stack up before the end of the semester, with the season really getting going in January. During the indoor season, Montana will make five trips to Bozeman and two to Pocatello, Idaho, in addition to competing in a prestigious meet at the University of Washington in Seattle.
Â
The 2020 Big Sky Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships will be hosted by Idaho State from Feb. 27-29.
Â
Montana will open its outdoor season at home, hosting the Al Manuel Northwest Invite (March 27-28). It will be one of two home meets on the team's schedule, with the Grizzlies also hosting this year's Griz-Cat Dual against Montana State (May 2). Montana will visit Bozeman three times, in addition to April trips to California for the Stanford Invitational, Bryan Clay Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays.
Â
Weber State will host this year's Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships (May 13-16), with the University of Kansas hosting the NCAA West Regional (May 28-30).
Â
Additional dates, or changes, could still be made throughout the fall.
Â
Montana is coming off of a strong 2019 season that featured NCAA Championship qualification in both indoor and outdoor. The Grizzlies return four athletes who participated at the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento, and 23 athletes who scored at the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Included in that group are medalists Brendan Thurber-Blaser (decathlon champion), Xavier Melice (200 meters runner-up), Carla Nicosia (triple jump runner-up), Jane Booth (third place in high jump), Aidan Diggs (third place in 400-meter hurdles), Olivia Ellis (third place in 400-meter hurdles) and Jansen Ziola (third place in long jump).
Â
As a team, Montana's men placed third at the outdoor championships, while the women finished fourth. Brian Schweyen is in his 12th season leading the Grizzlies.
