11/4/2020 9:27:00 AM | Football
The Big Sky Conference announced a six-game league schedule for the spring of 2021 Wednesday. The abbreviated slate is set to begin February 27 and will culminate on April 10 with a pair of conference-wide bye weeks built in to accommodate make-up games.
Â
Montana is scheduled to play its first two spring games on the road, traveling to Flagstaff to face Northern Arizona on February 27, followed by a trip to Cheney to face Eastern Washington on March 6.
Â
The Grizzlies will then play their home opener on March 13 against Cal Poly in Washington-Grizzly Stadium, followed by the first bye week on the schedule. Should any of the first three games be postponed, that game will be made up during the bye on March 20.
Â
The second half of the spring schedule starts with a bang on March 27 in Missoula, with the Grizzlies hosting Montana State in the 120th edition of the Brawl of the Wild.
Â
UM rounds out the slate by traveling to Moscow to face the rival Idaho Vandals on April 3, then hosts Portland State on April 10. Should any of the final three games be postponed, they will have the opportunity to be made up during the second bye-week of the season on April 17.
Â
The NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision playoffs, which have been reduced from 24 to 16 teams this season, is scheduled to begin on April 24, with Selection Sunday on April 18. The spring playoff schedule runs four-straight weeks and will conclude with the FCS National Championship Game on May 15 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
Â
"Announcing the schedule is one more step toward football in the spring, and I am excited our student-athletes will have the opportunity to compete," said UM director of athletics Kent Haslam.
Â
"Late-February is an early start, but this schedule does allow flexibility to complete the season while navigating potential impacts from COVID-19. I look forward to watching our team play."
Â
Further information about Montana's spring season, including ticketing and broadcast details, will be announced in the near future.Â
