UNLV tops Montana in five innings

UNLV scored six runs with two outs in the bottom of the third and that was the difference on Thursday night as the Rebels no-hit Montana to open the Marucci Desert Classic in Las Vegas with an 8-0 victory over the Grizzlies.

Sophomore Jenny Bressler struck out eight as UNLV became the fourth team to no-hit Montana.
Â
The game started out as a pitchers' duel between Bressler and Griz junior Tristin Achenbach, who both had four strikeouts through two innings.
Â
Montana (4-2) loaded the bases in the top of the third on three Bressler walks, but the right-hander from Michigan got a strikeout to come out unscathed.

Achenbach, who entered the game with an ERA of 0.28, got two quick strikeouts in the bottom of the third before the Rebels got to her for a two-run double and a pair of two-run home runs.

UNLV (3-3) added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, on a single, a triple and a sacrifice fly off Montana freshman Ashley Ward, who relieved Achenbach in the bottom of the third.

Montana will play Utah Valley at 1:30 p.m. (MT) and UNLV at 6:30 p.m. (MT) on Friday.
