Toure, Flowers earn more preseason All-America honors

Athlon Sports continued its FCS season preview series on Thursday with Montana's Samori Toure and Malik Flowers earning preseason All-America accolades a day after UM slotted in at No. 7 in its preseason top-25.

The honor is the second for both Toure and Flowers this year after they were named first and third-team All-America, respectively, by HERO Sports in May. The Athlon Sports list, however, consists of just one team, highlighting the very best at the FCS level.

Toure and Flowers are two of just seven players from the Big Sky Conference to make Athlon's All-America list. Weber State led the league with three selections, while Montana State and Portland State each had an individual pick.

Toure, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound wide receiver broke the UM school record for receiving yards in a season with 1,495 and broke NFL Hall of Famer Randy Moss' FCS Playoff record with 303 receiving yards against Southeastern Louisiana.

The senior from Portland, Oregon, was a consensus All-American after his breakout 2019 season and a first-team All-Big Sky pick by the league's coaches as well. He was named to four different All-America squads, including those by STATS Perform, the Associated Press, HERO Sports, and Phil Steele Magazine.

Flowers, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound returner set a new Montana school record in 2019 with a Big Sky-best 879 total kick return yards and a pair of returns for touchdowns, one of just eight players in the FCS to do so.

The junior from Fontana, California, was named to a pair of All-America teams after his record-setting season where he broke Jabin Sambrano's 2011 return yards record (836). With two seasons to play, Flowers has racked up 1,486 career return yards, needing just 601 more to beat Rob Schulte's school record.
