Spring soccer schedule undergoes change

The Big Sky Conference announced this week that the league's spring soccer schedule has undergone a change and will utilize both divisions and the two-match, same-opponent model used by basketball and volleyball.
The Big Sky's soccer-playing schools will be divided into a Northwest Division and Southeast Division.
Competing in the Northwest Division will be Eastern Washington, Idaho, Montana, Portland State and Sacramento State.
The Southeast Division will be composed of Idaho State, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, Southern Utah and Weber State.
Each team will play the other four teams in its division in a Friday-Sunday series at the same location, with each team having one weekend off.
Montana will play home series against Portland State (March 26, 28) and Eastern Washington (April 9, 11), road series at Idaho (March 12, 14) and Sacramento State (April 2, 4).
The format includes a return of the Big Sky tournament, which wasn't going to be held in the original spring schedule that was announced in November.
The tournament will feature the top two teams in each division. The four-team event will be played in Ogden, Utah, with semifinals on Thursday, April 15, the championship match on Saturday, April 17.
The tournament champion will advance to the NCAA tournament.
Montana, which won the 2019 regular-season title with an unbeaten 6-0-3 record, was picked atop the preseason coaches' poll that was announced in July.
Northern Colorado, Eastern Washington, Sacramento State and Northern Arizona also received first-place votes.
