For the second straight year, Montana safety Robby Hauck has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Division-I Academic All-District 6 team, the organization announced Thursday.
Â
Hauck, one of just four players from the Big Sky Conference to earn a place on the list, earned both Academic All-District and Academic All-America honors from CoSIDA in the 2020/21 season as well. He is Montana's 36th Academic All-American in program history – the most of any Big Sky institution.
Â
With a place on the 2021 Academic All-District 6 team, Hauck is once again in the running for Academic All-America status, a feat only repeated by seven other players in Montana history.
Â
The Academic All-District Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Nominees must have a 3.30 GPA or higher and be a starter or important reserve to be considered for selection.
Â
Already a University of Montana degree holder in Management Information Systems, Hauck carries a 3.95 GPA and is pursuing a Masters in Business Administration.
Â
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. First and second-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in mid-December.
Â
Hauck was one of 30 players named to the NCAA Division I – District 6 First Team, a region that encompasses the states of Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
Â
The accolade comes on the heels of an already impressive week for the junior, having earned national and conference player of the week accolades on Monday.
Â
After a dominant, 14-tackle defensive effort at Northern Arizona, Hauck doubled up on the weekly honors as the Stats Perform FCS Defensive Player of the Week and the ROOT Sports Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week. He also helped seal the road win for UM with a strip-sack forced-fumble in the third quarter that led to a scoop-and-score touchdown for Patrick O'Connell and the Grizzly defense – one of two touchdowns on the day for the unit.
Â
A team captain, he's also been a key part of Montana's Big Sky-best rush defense that is allowing just 73 yards per game this season, which ranks third in the FCS.
Â
Hauck now sits in sixth place on Montana's all-time leading tackler list after passing Mike Rankin (1985-88) and Jordan Tripp (2009-13) with 337 career tackles. He's also just 29 stops away from surpassing his 2019 season total of 129 tackles, and needs just 61 more stops to become Montana's all-time leading tackler – still with a year left to play.
Â
In the leadup to the 2020/21 seasons, Hauck was named to the preseason All-Big Sky team and was named preseason All-America by Phil Steele Magazine and HERO Sports.
