Avery, Esh lead Montana on Day 2

Teigan Avery and Kylie Esh both shot a 4-over 76 on Tuesday as the Big Sky Conference Championship continued at Arrowhead Golf Club in Molalla, Ore.
Â
That made it back-to-back 76s for Esh, who sits alone in 12th place going into Wednesday's final round. Avery opened with an 81 on Monday and is tied for 22nd.
Â
The other three Montana golfers all came in at 86 or higher on Tuesday. Jessica Ponce shot an 86, Faith D'Ortenzio an 87, Meredith Boos an 88.
Â
"Teigan and Kylie got off to good starts and hung in there. They both knew where their ball was going. The other three girls kind of lost their swings a little bit, lost their confidence," said coach Kris Nord.
Â
"If you don't know where your drive is going and you don't put your ball in the right place near the greens, it's a very tough course. Unfortunately, we had it happen to three kids on the same day."
Â
Like she did on Monday, Esh got to work on the back nine on Tuesday. After playing the front nine at 4-over, she played the back at even, with birdies on No. 11 and 16.
Â
Avery birdied the first hole and was 4-over through 11 when she went birdie-eagle on the par-3 12th and par-4 13th to get to 1-over.
Â
"I got to see (her eagle)," said Nord. "It was perfect. She struck the middle of the fairway with her drive. I was behind the green, and her ball looked like it was on line the whole way.
Â
"It had perfect speed and rolled right in. It was a good little run."
Â
No team broke 300 on Tuesday. Sacramento State followed up Monday's 298 with a 304 and will take a three-stroke advantage over Northern Arizona (296-309) into the final 18 holes.
Â
Portland State (302-307) sits seven strokes back. Montana (320-325) is tied for ninth with Idaho State (322-323).
Â
Sacramento State's Tess Blair (74-69) leads the field at 1-under. She'll take a three-shot lead into Wednesday's final round.
