
Montana falls at Colorado State

The Montana women's basketball team dropped to 0-2 on the season with an 82-58 setback at Colorado State on Friday evening in Fort Collins.

The Rams (2-0), who opened the season with a 20-point home win over BYU on Tuesday, scored 52 points over the second and third quarters and led the final 35:28.

Destiny Thurman, a transfer from UTEP, scored 24 points for Colorado State, McKenna Hofschild, one of the Mountain West Conference's top players, added 18 points and 11 assists.

Freshman Libby Stump led Montana with 15 points and four assists off the bench. She hit three 3-pointers, as did Dani Bartsch, who scored a career-high 12 points. Gina Marxen also finished with 12.

The Lady Griz shot 34.5 percent and turned the ball over 19 times. Colorado State, which had just four turnovers on Tuesday against the Cougars, shot 49.3 percent and turned it over seven times.

The Rams went 10 for 20 from the 3-point line, with seven players hitting at least one triple.

Montana led 5-0 in the opening minutes on a Bartsch 3-pointer and a Marxen basket. The Lady Griz went up 8-4 on a Marxen three-point play four minutes in.

The Rams responded with a 10-0 run that gave them a lead they would never give back.
