Montana sophomore forward Delaney Lou Schorr, who led the Big Sky Conference in goals this past season, was named third-team All-West Region this week by the United Soccer Coaches.
Â
Schorr's selection marks the 20th time in program history a Grizzly has been voted all-region. It's only the second time one of those selections has been an underclassman.
Â
Hallie Widner, then a freshman, was named third-team all-region in 2014. "Delaney is just now recognizing how good she can be," said coach Chris Citowicki.
Â
Schorr entered her sophomore season after totaling one goal and three shots her freshman year.
She doubled that total in Montana's 6-0 victory over MSU Billings, then added two more goals two days later in the Grizzlies' 3-0 win over CSU Bakersfield to earn Big Sky Player of the Week honors.
Â
Schorr scored the game-winning goal in victories over North Dakota State and Northern Colorado, and added her final goal of the season against Northern Arizona.
Â
It was one of only two goals allowed by the regular-season champion Lumberjacks in eight league matches.
Â
Schorr was injured in Montana's late-season match at Idaho State and missed the Grizzlies' final three games. She sat out four of Montana's 20 matches in 2022.
Â
Schorr's seven goals, all of which came in the air and off her head, matched the most scored by a Grizzly since Erin Craig netted 10 in 2011.
Â
Her seven goals came on just 23 shots and in only 739 minutes. Her shot percentage (.304) was the best by Montana's leading scorer since Heather Olson scored 14 goals on 46 shots on 2000.
Â
"It's amazing what she pulled off in the limited amount she ended up playing," said Citowicki. "She had a very good year.
Â
"She's starting to find her feet. Now that we all understand how she plays and she learns how to compete at this level, she should be even better. This is such a bright spot at the end of the season."
Â
Schorr, who was voted first-team All-Big Sky, was one of just two players from the league, along with Idaho midfielder Savannah Foster, to be recognized by the United Soccer Coaches.
