Rohrbach a semifinalist for the FCS Punter of the Year

Montana punter Patrick Rohrbach was once again recognized as one of the best in the FCS on Monday, with the Augusta Sports Council naming him a semifinalist for FCS Punter of the Year.

Rohrbach, a true freshman, was one of 10 semifinalists for the award, chosen from a field of 30 candidates. As the league's top punter, he's also the only player from the Big Sky Conference to be named a semifinalist.

According to a release from the Augusta Sports Council, candidates were evaluated by its FCS Punter of the Year Award committee on their overall statistics and contribution to the team. Particular emphasis was placed on net punting average, number of punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line, total yardage punted, average returned yardage, and percentage of punts not returned.

Rohrbach finished the year with the third-best average in the FCS at 45.2 yards per attempt, which slots in as the second-best season average in school history. Montana's punt coverage unit also posted the second-best net punt average in the FCS this season at 41.52 yards.

The Kalispell native totaled 2170 yards on 48 punts in his first season in maroon and silver, dropping 18 inside the opponent's 20 and booming 15 punts 50-plus yards with a long of 68.

Rohrbach is also a finalist for the Stats Perform Jerry Rice Award that goes to the nation's top freshman player at any position. Â

A national voting body of FCS sports information directors, conference representatives and sports writers will choose the punter of the year from the list of 10 semifinalists. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, December 13.

The Augusta Sports Council is also home to the Ray Guy Award, given annually to the top punter in FBS football.
