Montana coaches lead charge to help #TackleDuchenne

Montana head coach Bobby Hauck is helping lead a nationwide blitz of football coaches to help tackle Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a deadly muscle disorder that robs young men of their strength.Â
Â
In partnership with the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD), Hauck was featured in a PPMD video this summer encouraging college and high school coaches around the country to join the "Coach to Cure MD" program.
Â
Hauck posted the video to his Twitter account Friday, saying "Excited to partner with @WeAreAFCA and football coaches nationwide on Sept. 24 to help #TackleDuchenne!"
Â
"It's a great cause, and nobody is doing more to find this cure than our profession – college, and high school coaches – and you can help," he said in the video.
Â
Now in its 15th year, Coach to Cure MD uses the power of football to raise awareness and money to fund research for a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Â
On September 24 when Montana faces Portland State, Hauck and his staff will team up with coaches nationwide for one day to promote the program by wearing specially designed patches on their official sideline apparel.Â
Â
Fans can join the cause by using the hashtag #TackleDuchenne on social media, and can donate $25 to the Coach to Cure MD mission by texting the word CURE to 501501.
Â
Since 2019 Hauck has served as the FCS representative on the AFCA Board of Trustees, helping formulate policy and providing direction for the national coaching organization that touts more than 11,000 members.
Â
Since returning to Montana as the 37th head coach in program history in 2017, he has become the winningest coach in UM history after 10 seasons at his alma mater. With an overall record of 108-29 and 63-14 in conference play he is also within striking distance of becoming the winningest coach of all time in Big Sky history.
Â
He needs just four more wins to pass former Nevada and College Football Hall of Fame coach Chris Ault to become the league's second-winningest coach of all time and 16 wins to break the record set by former NAU head coach and UM assistant Jerome Souers.
