
Griz track & field earns nine Academic All-District honors

The Montana track and field program placed nine athletes on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District teams, the organization announced on Wednesday. Five women and four men earned the award for the Grizzlies, which honors academic excellence along with competitive success.

Beatrix Frissell and Morgan Radtke both earned 4.0 GPA's for Montana. Frissell, who graduated with a degree in political science, wrapped up a stellar Grizzly career with four appearances in the women's 5,000-meter race this season. She is a two-time President's Award winner and recipient of the Truman Scholarship and Marshall Scholarship. She is an 11-time Academic All-Big Sky honoree.

Radtke earned her second All-Big Sky Conference honor earlier in May at the Big Sky Championships in Greeley with a third-place finish in the heptathlon. She also placed third during the indoor championships in the pentathlon as a senior. Radtke had a 3.80 GPA while getting her MBA this semester. She is an eight-time Academic All-Big Sky winner.

Ailsa Gilbert graduated with a degree in Elementary Education after a 3.98 GPA during her undergrad. She competed in the long and triple jump this year, as well as the 100-meter hurdles. She narrowly missed out on scoring at the Big Sky meet in the hurdles with a time of 14.51.

Kylie Frohlich graduated with a Master's degree in Health and Human Performance, maintaining a 3.90 GPA. The former Lady Griz basketball player had a great season throwing the javelin, culminating with a point-scoring performance at the Big Sky Championships with a throw of 132-7. Frohlich was a four-time Academic All-Big Sky selection during her Lady Griz career.

Holly Sudol competed at the NCAA West Regional last week in the 400-meter hurdles after winning the Big Sky championship in the event. Sudol, a five-time Academic All-Big Sky pick, recently graduated with a degree in Management and Entrepreneurship.

Cutter Thatcher had the highest GPA among the men's honorees. Thatcher currently has a 3.94 GPA in Management Information Systems. The 400-meter hurdler from Butte had a great season on the track, finishing fourth at the Big Sky Championships with a career-best time of 53.16.

Alfred Peterson scored at the Big Sky Championships as well, finishing seventh in the high jump with a mark of 6-7.5. The Dillon, Mont., native graduated with a degree in Management and Entrepreneurship with a 3.93 GPA.

The javelin duo of Matthew Hockett and Evan Todd rounded out the honorees. Both juniors, Hockett finished with a GPA of 3.62 in Pharmacy while Todd had a 3.52 GPA in Marketing. The pair both competed at the NCAA West Regionals in Sacramento last week.

Todd won his second straight Big Sky championship along with five other meets this season, finishing with a yearlong best throw of 226-7.

Hockett placed fifth at the Big Sky meet with a throw of 201-9. He had a career best mark of 217-8 at the Montana Open on April 22.
