Bergen and Gubner named Preseason All-Americans
8/1/2023 3:38:00 PM | Football
A pair of Montana Grizzlies have earned more early accolades with Stats Perform naming Junior Bergen and Alex Gubner to one of its three Preseason All-America teams, the online news outlet announced Tuesday.
Â
Bergen, a junior receiver and return man from Billings, and Gubner, a senior defensive tackle, were both named preseason All-Big Sky at the league's football kickoff last week and were two of 19 total selections from the conference, tied for the most in the FCS.
Â
One of the most electric overall players in the FCS, Bergen was named to the second team as a punt returner, while Gubner was named to the third-team D-line.
Â
Already named to the Athlon Sports preseason All-America team as a returner in 2023, Bergen was named third-team All-Big Sky as an all-purpose player in 2022 and earned All-America honors from HERO Sports, Stats Perform, and Phil Steele Magazine.
Â
Gubner was Montana's co-Defensive MVP as a junior and earned All-Big Sky honors for a second-straight season. Set to be a likely four-year starter, he earned a place on the league's preseason team for a second-straight year at the Big Sky Kickoff. He'll start his senior campaign with 127 career tackles, 7.5 sacks, and, memorably, four interceptions from his freshman season.
Â
The Grizzlies report to fall camp on Friday, Aug. 4, with the first practice slated for Monday, Aug. 7.
Â
Montana opens the 2023 season on Sept. 2 in Washington-Grizzly Stadium with a first-time matchup against the Butler Bulldogs out of Indiana.
Â
Season tickets, mini-packs, and single-game tickets for UM's first five home games are on sale now at GrizTix.com. Single-game tickets to the 122nd Brawl of the Wild against Montana State go on sale Sept. 12, pending availability. Season tickets or mini plans are the best way to ensure your seat at this year's Griz/Cat game.
