Griz establish new season ticket record ahead of home-opener

With kickoff of the 2023 football season less than 24 hours away, Montana Athletics announced it has shattered the previous record for most season tickets in program history, with 18,761 sold and distributed as of Friday morning.

The total blows past the previous season ticket record of 18,622 set in 2009 by nearly 140 packages and exceeds 2022's season total by more than 450 sold and distributed.

"The unmatched support of Griz Nation is truly inspiring for all of us," said director of athletics Kent Haslam.

 "We rely on the financial investment by our season ticket holders more than any other FCS institution, and more than many FBS institutions, in the country. We cannot thank these dedicated fans enough."

Montana led the Big Sky Conference and was second in all of FCS football in overall and average attendance for a second-straight season in 2022, with 18,292 season tickets sold and distributed and 165,178 total fans passing through the turnstiles.

The Grizzlies sold out four of their six regular season home games that year, averaging 23,597 per game across all seven contests, including a Thanksgiving weekend first-round playoff game.

Montana opens the 2023 season against Butler on Saturday, with limited single-game tickets remaining and a near sellout expected.

This weekend's season opener is the first of three home games for the Griz in September. UM will also host Ferris State under the lights on Sept. 16 in a Black Out of Washington-Grizzly Stadium. Idaho State then comes to town on Sept. 30 for homecoming.

Montana returns home on Oct. 28 for a busy day against Northern Colorado, which is also Hall of Fame weekend, the University's family weekend, and a game in which Montana will recognize first responders. The following weekend, Nov. 4, UM will host Sacramento State for its military appreciation game.

The 2023 regular season will conclude on Nov. 18 against rival Montana State on senior day.
