Grizzlies add Washington transfer

The Montana soccer program has added Chloe Seelhoff to its roster for 2024. A 5-foot-5 midfielder, Seelhoff played two seasons at Washington before transferring to the Grizzlies. She will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Â
Seelhoff is a midyear addition who will attend classes at Montana during the spring semester and gain valuable training time with her new teammates from February to April.
Â
"It's a good time to come in. When a transfer gets here in the summer, it can be hard to really get to know the team," said Chris Citowicki, the 2023 Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year.
Â
"For her to come in and interact and get to know people and play in the four games we have scheduled will put her in a really good spot, especially knowing we have such a void in the midfield. It will be important for her to be part of that rebuilding process."
Â
Graduation hit that position group particularly hard, with Montana losing Sydney Haustein, Abby Gearhart, Kathleen Aitchison and Maysa Walters from the midfield for a team that went 13-3-3 in the fall and won the Big Sky Conference regular-season championship with a 7-0-1 record.
Â
"She is a mix of a Sydney and a Maddie Ditta. She isn't just attacking and she isn't just defending. She can do the running from box to box. She can do it all and has the engine to do it," said Citowicki.
Â
Seelhoff, who is from Snohomish, Wash., played in four matches in 2022 as a freshman for a Huskies team that went 10-6-3. She played in 13 of 19 matches in the fall, getting four starts. She scored her first collegiate goal in Washington's 3-1 road win at Idaho in August.
Â
She is the younger sister of Maddie Seelhoff, who will be a senior for the Grizzlies in the fall. The younger Seelhoff made a postseason visit to Missoula and committed to the Grizzlies in November.
Â
"I've had so many players sit across from me and it's almost always a pleasant time, one with smiles," said Citowicki. "Chloe sat down and through that whole time, she didn't smile once. She has this look of business and intensity on her face.
Â
"I pointed it out and that finally got her to smile. You can feel it coming off her, this feeling of competitiveness. There is an intensity to her. She plays that way, does fitness that way and lives that way. She is exactly what we need. It's going to be great."
