FRISCO, Texas - Linebacker Carson Rostad, a junior on the No. 2 ranked and Big Sky Champion Montana Grizzly football team, was named the recipient of the Elite 90 award for the 2023 NCAA Division I Football Championship Friday in Frisco, Texas.
The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.
Rostad, a native of Hamilton, holds a 3.91 GPA. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Montana this fall with a degree in finance and was granted early admittance to the MBA graduate program.
The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.
Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above academically who have participated in a sport for at least two years with their school. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.
Rostad is a two-time Academic All-Big Sky selection who has excelled on special teams this season for the Griz, who will compete for the program's third national championship game on Sunday.
He's played in 37 contests in his career, totaling 22 tackles, a half-TFL, and one pass deflection.
Montana is 13-1 on the season and is making the eighth FCS title game appearance in program history.
