The new Grizzly Indoor Practice Facility officially opened on Wednesday with hundreds lining up to catch a glimpse inside the structure and to hear dignitaries speak at a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Â
President Seth Bodnar, director of athletics Kent Haslam, head football coach Bobby Hauck, campus rec director Steve Thompson, and football senior cornerback Trevin Gradney were just some of the UM representatives in attendance to cut the ribbon.
Â
After the ceremony the doors were opened to the public to take a tour of the new facility that will serve as the cold-weather training grounds of Griz football, track & field, soccer, and softball, plus UM groups like Campus Rec and the Intermural Program, Missoula youth sports organizations and more. Â
Â
"This is a huge deal, obviously for our football team and for Grizzly Athletics, but also for our students and this community. I want to say my heartfelt gratitude for so many that made this possible," said Bodnar.
Â
"It's important for our community, and during winter months when there aren't places for people to recreate, that aren't safe, good indoor spaces, some of our community partners are going get to use this facility. So, the impacts of this facility are going to be felt by a lot of people."
Â
"When I look around, I see all of you at everything we do, and we really appreciate you. Your generosity is unsurpassed anywhere around the country, and we obviously couldn't do it without you. This would not be here, that stadium wouldn't be here, that endzone facility wouldn't be here without the same people that have helped us put this together. So, we thank you all," said Hauck.
Â
"It's a complete game-changer for our program. You know, this is a facility that we will be able to do absolutely everything we need to prepare our track team, especially for the indoor championships," head UM track coach Doug Fraley told KPAX News.
Â
"When it's the middle of winter, it's going to make a huge difference in our ability to prepare our student-athletes for championship experiences. It's really going to help our athletic department, so I'm just grateful and thankful for each and every person who is a part of that."
