Griz shoot 300 on Tuesday in Arizona

The Montana women's golf team shot a second-round 300 on Tuesday as the three-round Bobcat Desert Classic continued at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz.

The Grizzlies matched the single-round program record with a 288 for Monday's opening 18 holes and got a late-morning tee time on Tuesday as a reward. Just in time for the winds to pick up.

"Conditions were tougher today because we played later. The wind was gusting. You'd pick a club and hit it and the wind would do something completely different. That made it more challenging," said coach Jimmy Mee.

"It was harder but we made some mistakes. We weren't quite as sharp as we were yesterday."

Montana started the day in fifth place on a tight leaderboard and is sitting 12th after 36 holes at 12-over.

Through two rounds, Raina Ports (71-74) is tied for 20th at 1-over, Kendall Hayward (70-77) is tied for 32nd at 3-over, and Hannah Ports (75-73) is tied for 39th at 4-over.

Tricia Joyce (72-77) is tied for 49th at 5-over, Elle Higgins (75-76) is tied for 63rd at 7-over. Competing as an individual, Kate Bogenschutz (79-84) is sitting in 95th place in the 98-golfer field.

After mostly avoiding costly bogeys on Monday, the Grizzlies' five scoring players had seven holes played at bogey or worse through the course's first four holes on Tuesday.

Montana was solid through the middle of the course before playing the final three holes at 6-over.

"We kind of got off to a slow start," said Mee. "We got it going in the middle for a little while, then 16-17-18 kind of ate our lunch today.

"We didn't make many putts. That was one of the bigger things, slight misreads or slight speed or whatever. We didn't get the most out of the round that we could."

It's tight atop the team leaderboard. Seattle (283-283) will take a one-stroke lead over Grand Canyon (281-286) and a three-stroke lead over Wyoming (287-282) into Wednesday's final round.

Seattle's Rivekka Jumagulova (66-67), at 11-under, holds the individual lead. Three players are 6-under, 17 players are under par through 36 holes.
