Evan Todd donned his Montana track and field uniform one final time on Friday evening, doing so at the biggest stage in the country and finishing in 16th place at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Eugene, Ore. Todd's mark of 221-3 made him the one of the top American throwers in 2024.
Â
Todd's first throw measured 209-0 and his final throw was 210-4. The top 12 throwers advanced to Sunday's final. Todd missed out on the final by just under eight feet, as professional Brett Thompson had the final qualifying mark at 229-2.
Â
Curtis Thompson of Trackmith Boston had the best throw of the day with a mark of 261-3. Jordan Davis, the top American so far in 2024, hit 253-1 on his first throw and rested for his final two in preparation for Sunday's final.
Â
"That is a very solid performance by Evan after a very lengthy collegiate season," head coach Doug Fraley said. "16th place at the Olympic Trials is something to be very proud of. He's had an amazing career as a Montana Grizzly and I couldn't be prouder of the way he has led our team in athletics, academics, and as a superb young man."
Â
It caps an impressive career for Todd, who won three Big Sky titles for Montana and leaves the program as the school record holder. He reached the NCAA First Round all four seasons and made it all the way to the NCAA Championships two weeks ago in Eugene.
Â
Todd will leave a lasting legacy at Montana as the top javelin thrower in the program's very rich history in the event. Â
